Top 5 Cabinet Paint Colors for 2026

Cold grays have been on the way out for a couple of years, and 2026 is making that official. Warm neutrals, earthy greens, and deep moody tones are what's showing up in kitchens and bathrooms right now. Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore both leaned hard into that direction with their 2026 palettes, and the cabinet colors coming out of those lines reflect it. Here are five worth knowing about.

1. Pewter Green | Sherwin-Williams

Pewter Green is a muted, gray-green that works with a lot of different countertop and hardware combinations without fighting anything. Brass and unlacquered bronze hardware look especially good with it, and it pairs really well with natural wood accents, butcher block, and white oak countertops.

Worth knowing: it shifts depending on the light. In a north-facing kitchen it pulls more gray, and in a room with a lot of natural light the green comes forward pretty noticeably. Get a large sample on the actual cabinet doors before committing, not just a paint chip.

It's a strong pick for lower cabinets in a two-tone kitchen or a bathroom vanity, basically anywhere warm wood tones are already in the mix.

2. Universal Khaki | Sherwin-Williams

Sherwin-Williams' 2026 Color of the Year went in a warmer direction than most people expected. Universal Khaki is a neutral brown with yellowish undertones, sitting somewhere between tan and warm greige. On cabinets it feels grounded and earthy without tipping into full-on brown territory.

It pairs well with brushed gold hardware and fits kitchens going for a warm, organic feel. If you want to get away from gray without committing to a color, this is a pretty comfortable middle ground. Works best as a full cabinet run in an open kitchen where the warmth can spread across the whole space.

3. Garden Gate | Sherwin-Williams

Garden Gate is a deeper, richer green and a more committed choice than Pewter Green. Sherwin-Williams has been featuring it on vanities and cabinetry in their 2026 materials as part of their darker, more saturated direction for the year.

On a bathroom vanity against a white or light marble countertop it looks sharp. In a kitchen it works best on lower cabinets or an island with lighter uppers, where the contrast does the heavy lifting. It's a bolder call but the result in the right space is pretty hard to argue with.

4. Silhouette | Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore's 2026 palette leaned into deeper, more saturated tones, and Silhouette is the standout for cabinetry. It's a near-black with enough warmth to avoid looking flat or harsh, and against lighter countertops and a simple backsplash it holds its own without needing a lot of other design work around it.

Dark lower cabinets with white or cream uppers is a combination that's been popular for a while, and Silhouette is a strong choice for that lower run. It also works really well on a single bathroom vanity where you want something bold without covering a lot of square footage.

5. Alabaster | Sherwin-Williams

White cabinets aren't going anywhere, and Alabaster has been a popular choice for a few years running. It's a soft, warm white with slightly creamy undertones that keeps it from feeling cold or sterile next to warm materials like natural stone or wood accents.

It's a lower-risk choice than anything else on this list, which also means it has broad resale appeal. For a clean, updated look that holds up without feeling dated, it's a pretty reliable call.

A Note on Finish

Whatever color you go with, the finish matters. Cabinets take a lot of daily wear, so semi-gloss or satin holds up better than eggshell or matte and is a lot easier to wipe down. Most professional cabinet painters default to semi-gloss for that reason.
